Many people ponder the question, "What are the keys to long lasting holistic relationships?" Successful relationships involve many different components.

Finding the right person takes time, so when people find that special person they often have a number of questions that arise, such as "What are the keys to holistic relationships?" and "What are the keys to a successful relationship?" The answers are simple, by making sure that each person's needs are being met. But as many people know, this can often be more difficult then it sounds.

This is because each person has different needs. Figuring out these needs and meeting them continuously are the keys to making relationships work. These components are found in both physical and mental aspects of a relationship, most commonly referred to as holistic relationships.

Holistic Realtionships-Making Relationships Work

Making relationships work can be a difficult task, which is one of the primary reasons for divorce. According to the article, "Divorce Rate: It's not as High as you Might Think," author Dan Hurley of the New York Times cites findings from the Fertility and Family Statistics Branch of the Census Bureau, which state, "The highest rate of divorce in the 2001 survey was 41 percent for men who were then between the ages of 50 to 59, and 39 percent for women in the same age group."

With many marriages ending in divorce, something somewhere must have gone very wrong.

The keys to holistic relationships involve many different aspects and when combined form a powerful bond between partners that are keys to making relationships work. Below are keys to successful holistic relationships, when needs are being met by each person involved.

Collaboration Crucial for a Successful Relationship

Many people believe that a successful relationship is based on compromise, but this is a false belief. Compromise in a relationship means that there is at least one person that is always having to sacrifice more then her fair share. This can create stress on the relationship and resentment later on. When two people within a relationship collaborate more can be accomplished because each person's input is included in the final decision.

Trust in a Relationship is Essential

Without trust, there are high amounts of uncertainty and doubt. In order for the relationship to withstand the test of time equal amounts of trust needs to be displayed by both partners in order for the relationship to survive. What kind of relationship is built without it? A relationship that is unsuccessful.

In the article titled, "Trust and Vulnerability in Relationships," found on the Psychcentral web site, author Jane Collingwood states that, "A willingness to be vulnerable is a significant feature of lasting relationships — ones in which partners are allies, not foes."

Partners Should Respect Each Other

When there is a lack of respect, there are no boundaries, thus making conflicts hard to resolve. The keys to making relationships work in successful holistic relationships is allowing the other person to have his own point of view and respecting it even if his partner doesn't agree with it. Lack of respect shows little disregard for the other person's feelings. This makes the relationship chaotic and dysfunctional.

Sexual Chemistry Keeps Love Alive

Holistic relationships involve a certain level of sexual chemistry. Although it does not have to be the main component of what brings people together, there needs to be enough to get both parties interested and keep each others interests engaged. A relationship built on physical attraction or sexual chemistry alone can actually be detrimental to the potentiality of a long-term relationship.

According to Rick Nauert PhD in his article "Romance Can be Maintained in Long-term Relationships", published on the PsychCental web site, "Romantic love has the intensity, engagement and sexual chemistry that passionate love has, minus the obsessive component. Passionate or obsessive love includes feelings of uncertainty and anxiety. This kind of love helps drive the shorter relationships but not the longer ones.”

Understand Each Other's Values

If both partners in a relationship share the same values, it is highly likely that this will be a long-term relationship than one that lacks this component. The reason is, it is hard for a person to fully understand his partner's beliefs or values if he does not have the same value himself. To fully comprehend the values of the other person requires an open mind. This is also one of the keys to a successful relationship.

Holistic relationships involve – collaboration, trust, respect, sexual chemistry and values – which helps establish a strong foundation needed for a successful, long-term relationship. This is because each person's physical and mental needs are being met without sacrificing the needs of the other person within the relationship. When all of these components are combined they are the essentials needed for making relationships work.
